lyrics

Late one night while I was sleeping
I had met a girl there weeping
And the waitress kept on sweeping up the past from the diner floor

The girl looked through a pain of tears
That she’d carried through the years
And she tried her best to smile
But her lips were trembling with fear

So I looked to the girl’s reflection
In the raindrops of perfection
That were streaking down the window
Of the diner late that night

There she told me of a demon
Who had come while she was dreaming
Through the closet door was screaming
Of the horrors that were yet to come

Well I must have looked confused
Bewildered and bemused
Cause her soul begged for forgiveness
Through contorted swollen eyes

So I looked to the ashtray smoking cigarettes
And I was choking
On a joke that I was cracking
I was much too insecure

But her restlessness endured
And my jokes head for the diner door
Leaving me faced with her demons like a priest from a distant time

She’s the kind girl who cries herself to sleep
With the weight of the world over her bed
She’s the kinda girl who still tries counting sheep
To please that shepherd in her head

And the man at the counter sipped on something black
And his eyes were fixed
On my broken hearted dream girl and his lips slithered to a smile

And she froze when the man came near her
So I knew there was something there
So I pointed to the mirror
Where he looked to my surprise

There the demon faced the demon
And the two if them were screaming
As the two of us were leaving I dropped a 7 dollar tip

And the waitress looked up from the floor
As the two of us ran for the door the diner bell rang in the distance
And my jokes started the get-a-way car
